The Feminine

Having previously traveled to India on three separate occasions, the fourth trip procured a long held desire to capture a feminine perspective. Visiting Chandelao, Rajasthan, India for nine days in 2019 and using only available light I consciously resist the heightened romance of India in photographs, and illuminate the feminine experience within the place of mundane, earthly living.

Using both candid and posed techniques I meditate on qualities of the feminine through subtext, visual content, framing and even what is intentionally excluded from the image. No photograph or title claims to be factual. It is therefore a project of reality and dream, fact and fiction––a mash from which I distill the emotions, the toil, the beauty of the feminine.

This project is on-going and I look forward to more visits to India in the near future.
