This was shot in Youngstown, Ohio at my aunt and uncle’s home last year. Their home is fabulously untouched by 5 decades of busy family life – treasure trove.

This image was taken 2 months ago (February 2016 – my third visit to India in 4 years) in South India in the Palakkad District of Palapuram. It was on the sidelines of the Chinakkathoor Pooram elephant pageant. This gentleman was just resting off to the side of the festivities and with half a head waggle gave me permission to shoot his portrait. The juxtaposition of his relaxed body language against the red background and FIRE hose begged attention.
Visiting Israel with my family this week, I captured this image yesterday on the eve of Israel’s memorial day of remembrance. The young soldier appears to be stopping for his daily prayer, not an uncommon site, but for my western eye it captured some of the complexity of this region, as well as, my favorite subject matter – two seemingly, opposing thoughts/POV existing together – only this time, my hand of direction was not involved, just the luck of timing.
